Artist Marston Clough Has a New Exhibit On Martha’s Vineyard

Did you know that artist Marston Clough was born and raised in Martha’s Vineyard and lives there to this very day? It only makes sense that the Oak Bluffs library is hosting his new exhibit called “Let Your Mind Wander.” Marston Clough certainly is an interesting person. The artist was actually trained as both a scientist and teacher, as well as an artist. That makes for a unique background. For the past thirty (30) years, Marston Clough has dedicated himself to spending time doing what he loves best on a daily basis.

That of course is working on his artwork indoors and or outside. In the minimum, Marston Clough sketches in his studio. He loves to sketch people and places. In fact, his paintings come from his love of observing the island. In essence, he is inspired by the ocean, the horizon and the clouds. Marston Clough’s daily goal is to create art that will inspire people to take in the beautiful and natural landscape that’s all around them. The “Let Your Mind Wander” exhibit features not one, but three characteristics of his artwork.

For example, his earliest pieces that are displayed at the art show feature Clough’s black-and-white linoleum cuts. You will also see his paintings that feature boats on the water. What makes these pieces interesting is that they are from the perspective of aerial views and utilize both abstract shapes and compelling colors. We certainly do not want to ruin all of the surprises and beauty that Marston Clough’s “Let Your Mind Wander” art exhibit has to offer. You need to see it for yourself in order to truly appreciate it.

However, if you happen to miss it, the good news is that Marston Clough has paintings in the permanent collection at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. He also shows seasonally at the Galaxy Gallery in Oak Bluffs, the Old Sculpin Gallery, and Kin in Edgartown.
