Martha’s Vineyard for Thanksgiving Part 1 of 2

The summer season just ended. That means fall is just about here. Pretty soon it will be Thanksgiving, and Martha’s Vineyard is the perfect place to celebrate the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend. There are many things to do on the island before and after your meal. You can start the holiday by running or walking in the 5K Turkey Trot Road Race. It’s the perfect way to burn off some calories in preparation for  a day of feasting. Registration for the race is at 7:30 am at the Oak Bluffs police station on Thanksgiving morning. The entry fee is only $10 per runner, and the money goes towards a good cause. Proceeds help with fuel assistance for the elderly.

After you’re done fueling your own body and enjoying the Thanksgiving celebration with family and or friends has ended and you’re looking for something to do, keep in mind that Black Friday on Martha’s Vineyard is a ton of fun. There are actually some great deals to be had at most of the shops on the island. For example, Rainy Day and the Green Room in Vineyard Haven offer some amazing sales. There are plenty of deals to be had at the local shops in Edgartown and Oak Bluffs as well. You certainly won’t run out of options.

Another shopping option is the annual Thanksgiving Day Festival on Friday and Saturday. The event is located at the AG Hall in West Tisbury. It is the largest Vineyard Artisans event of the entire year. If you’re looking for one stop shopping, the Thanksgiving Day Festival is the place to be, offering everything from jewelry, to home goods, to food related gifts and more. Also keep in mind that the Saturday after Thanksgiving is Small Business Saturday, which is a small shop day that was first created by American Express. Small Business Saturday is a tremendous financial boost for small businesses across the island.

The Fall Festival at Felix Neck is a great option for when you and or your children are tired of shopping. The festival runs from 11 am until 3 pm on Black Friday. It offers a day of fun for the entire family. For example, you can take a hayride, make your own wreaths, and have your kids' faces painted.
